Boy Scout Emblems

There are two Religious Emblems available.

Ad Altare Dei

The Ad Altare Dei emblem can be earned by Roman Catholic Boy Scouts. Click on the emblem names to open a new window with NCCS requirements. A workbook must be purchased.  It is available at most scout shops or can be ordered from the archdiocese.  Before work on the workbook begins, the approval form must be signed by the applicant, parent, counselor, Unit leader, and pastor. The Ad Altare Dei requirements are completed during scheduled meetings led by a trained Religious Emblems Counselor, with outside homework,  and take approximately 7 - 12  months to complete. Upon completion, each candidate will meet with a board of review. After this review, the Scout will receive a BSA religious knot at an appropriate unit presentation ( Court of Honor), and the religious emblem at a parish ceremony.

Pope Pius XII

The Pope Pius XII emblem can be earned by older Boy Scouts and Venturing crew members. The Pope Pius XII emblem is completed at scheduled meetings led by the participants, and moderated by a trained Religious Emblems Moderator, with outside homework. It takes approximately 9-12 sessions (4-6 months) to complete. Upon completion, each candidate will meet with a board of review. After this review, the Scout/Venturing crew member will receive a BSA religious knot at an appropriate unit presentation ( Court of Honor), and the religious emblem at a parish ceremony.

Pope Pius XII Retreat

The Milwaukee Archdiocese Catholic Committee on Boy Scouts is sponsoring a retreat for boys to earn the Pope Pius XII Emblem.  The retreat is scheduled for January 16, 2009 - January 18, 2009.  The cost is $80 for youth and covers lodging, meals and program materials.  Participation is limited, so return the attached registration form to reserve your spot!

The Light is Life emblem can be earned by Eastern Catholic Boy Scouts.

Emblems Counselors

You must be trained in order to be a religious emblems counselor.  If you are already a religious emblems counselor, you must recertify every three years.  Training opportunities are provided a couple of times each year.  Please check our calendar for opportunities.
